Wedding Wednesday: Getting Ready!

Here we go, finally getting to my wedding day!

Getting ready was a really fun part of my day. One of my goals from the beginning of wedding planning was to make sure that I had plenty of time so that I could enjoy the entire morning and not be rushed or late for pictures. I had pictures scheduled starting at 1:30 at the venue (me getting dressed) so I wanted to go to the venue around 12:30 to double check all of the decor before I had to get dressed.

So...my bridesmaids and I stayed in a hotel the night before my wedding. I slept with my maid of honor in one room and the other girls were across the hall. My best friend and I had some snuggles and chatted when we woke up before we started getting ready.

We went to Starbucks to get the traditional 'Bride' and bridesmaids drinks and grabbed a light breakfast from our hotel.

When we got back, it wasn't long before the hair stylists arrived. I had a lot of drama with having a stylist, her moving unexpectedly and having another lady at the salon do my hair. Neither of my trials were exactly perfect for it gave me some anxiety. She also brought an assistant who worked on my bridesmaids.

My hair took way longer than it was supposed to and when I got up and looked at it in the mirror, I hated it. Literally I wanted to cry. My mom and bridesmaids were all like, you look so pretty, its okay...but it was bad. There was no poof like there was supposed to be and it was so matted down with hairspray. It was nasty. I had to just hold it together and get my make up done because my make up artist was there waiting.

Finally, 4 hours later we were all ready. Thankfully my make up was amazing, I felt like a supermodel. That made up for me hating my hair and I tried to not let it get me down. We packed up our stuff and headed to the venue in our robes. We took this teaser picture for me to put on facebook, I'm a little obsessed with it. :)

After I checked out everything in the venue, it was time to get dressed! My mom officially zipped me into my dress put it took all of my bridesmaids to get it all on right. There's a lot of poof! My bridesmaids were the best and kept the morning so fun and light hearted. They were constantly reassuring me, checking in on me, and making sure I was doing okay. I love them.

Adding those finishing touches! We had a nice 'locker room' to get ready in at the country club. There was nobody else in there and plenty of space. We could also peek out of the windows as they set up the ceremony decor so that was fun. I also got to watch my future husband walk out to his spot for the first look before I went out.

Next you'll get to see the first look! Writing this was so much fun, I love re-living the memories and all of the feelings I had on that day.

Wedding Wednesday: Food Tasting

We went to taste the food for our venue yesterday and it was a lot of fun. My fiance and I brought my mom since she is so generously paying for the reception. I love going to my venue because it always makes me even more excited for the big day. We are down to 30 DAYS!!!

Food tasting was what my fiance was looking forward to the most in the whole wedding planning process. He was able to get half of the day off to join my mom and I. They brought the food our family style so we could all try everything, here's what we had!
Carved tri-tip with au jus and roasted potatoes.

Chicken with a honey dijon glaze and mixed vegetables.

Classic Caesar Salad

Some fancy salad that I didn't try because there was too much stuff I couldn't identify. haha.

I didn't get pictures of the appetizers but we will be having BBQ meatballs, chicken skewers, and bruschetta. Plus for dessert, cupcake and a cookie bar. For some reason I don't think anyone will be going home hungry.

What were you or your fiance looking forward to the most?

Wedding Wednesday: Hair Trial!

Last week I went for my hair trial with my mom. When I talked with the hair stylist originally she had said that she could do me, as well as 4 others in 2 1/2 hours. That shocked me because I've never gotten my hair done that fast. I was excited for the trial to not only see what my hair would look like, but also to see if she actually was that fast.

I was nervous because I found this stylist from a local salon and not a personal recommendation. Thankfully as soon as we got to the salon I knew it would be a good choice. The decor was awesome and everyone was so friendly. I loved my stylist and she was immediately making me feel comfortable asking about my groom, the wedding, my bridesmaids, etc. We decided on what I wanted and she started working on my hair!

One thing she did comment on was that I need to not wash my hair the day of, or even the day before the wedding. She had a hard time getting the curls to hold because I had just washed my hair that morning. Even with that, I could get the idea of what it would be like and I was so happy she really understood what I wanted.

I think I am going to go with more volume in the back so that there is a bigger poof and maybe a little less pulled to the sides so that we can see the headband better. I am so relieved that it turned out so well and it makes me even more excited for my wedding!

Wedding Wednesday: Accessories

I finally booked my hairstylist and I am having my hair trial next week. I am super excited to finally see my dreams come to life. I am planning on wearing a headband and a veil. My headband came last week and it was exactly what I wanted. It is so sparkly and perfect, everything that I wanted!

I want a veil but I can't seem to find one that I really like. I bought one off amazon but I thought that it looked too cheap so I returned it. I tried on this one at david's bridal but I couldn't decide if it was too much. I didn't really want to spend a ton of money on my veil but it's starting to look like I might have to.

My mom bought me some pearl teardrop earrings similar to this for Christmas and I might be wearing them for the wedding. With such a loud headband I feel like I can't have huge obnoxious earrings.

It's so hard to visualize it all and I think I really need to try it all on at the same time in order to see what it's going to be like. I'm excited it is finally coming together, 129 days! :)

Wedding Wednesday: Hair & Make-up Inspiration

I haven't been doing much wedding stuff lately because I feel like I'm just in a holding pattern waiting for it to get closer. One of the more recent things I have done is book my hair and make up artist which has been looking on pintrest for some inspiration.

Here are some of my favorites:

I am obsessed with this look. I plan on wearing a headband and a veil so it's perfect. I don't like loose hair or anything too poofy and I think this is the perfect combination. Simple yet elegant.

A similar style but a little more volume at the top.

I love her make up! I like the browns and think I will definitely be doing something that is more natural but with a little drama with the eyeliner and mascara. I also really want to wear false eyelashes but my mom is totally against it, so I will have to see how well my make up artist does in the trial.

Speaking of that, how early did you ladies do you trials? My wedding isn't until august but I don't know when to do it. I am tempted to do it earlier just so that I know for sure I want to stick with that team but I also don't want to seem rude for having it so early. Any advice??

Wedding Wednesday: Pin-spiration!

Last time I posted an inspiration post it was when I was planning on a winter wedding so now that we are firmly established in our summer date I thought I would update with what are now the things that I am dying to have on my big day.

Things have been slow in the wedding planning because I basically booked all of my big vendors and I feel like now I'm just waiting around. So I use pintrest and weddingwire to fill my free time (which is like 5 minutes) and find more inspiration.

Rose Petals

As much as I want to do something beautiful and intricate like the picture on the left, I also really like the simplicity of having a heart on the ground and then also lining the aisle with petals. I think it would be a lot neater and the heart would still provide some 'wow' factor.

Sparkle...everywhere

I am obsessed with glitter and want it all over the place at my wedding. Place cards, candles in the centerpieces, I'm putting diamonds on the table, there will be no shortage of sparkle. I think it's so classy and fun. Also, none of it will be gold, I'm all about the silver.

Card Table

I love this box and definitely want it on my card/gift table. Besides that I will probably just frame an engagement picture or something to put on the other side since after a few guests I'm thinking the table will probably have gifts on it and not need much decoration anyway.

My hair

Up with a sparkle headband is what I am set on. I love this hair because it still has volume and probably looks great from the top but it isn't too much in the back. I love the soft curls and that headband is stunning. Now that I have my dress I know exactly how I can do my hair and I know I'm going to love it. One thing I really want is to be comfortable on my wedding day and I think that with the dress I picked and having my hair up, there will be nothing getting me down!

I am starting to have a really clear vision in my head but two things I am struggling with are music and what we want in the ceremony. It will be done by out paster but I'm not really into the sand or unity candle. I think it's cute but just not us, anyone have any ideas?

bad hair day.

my mom was off today && she decided that she wanted to get her hair done and she asked if i wanted to get mine done too. free haircut and highlights? of course! i was excited and decided that since i always get typical blonde highlights i wanted to mix it up a little and try an auburn color. i have medium brown hair so i thought doing something dark would be pretty and a good fit for fall. well...it didn't quite turn out that well.

we went to the local beauty school which my mom had been to before so she said it was fine. i also have been to similar types of places so i felt fine about it. then when i sat down i found out that girl that was doing my foil had never done it before, so that was nerve wracking. there were two people who were watching her and giving her tips so i felt a little better about it. but still. if you've never been to a beauty school one of the downsides is that it takes FOREVER. it seriously took almost two hours for her to just get the foils in my hair. my mom came over when they were washing it and she was like wow, thats bright! so that made me nervous. when she finally blow dried it i wanted to cry. it looked terribleeeee. it's so bright and looks like it was dyed, not like they were just highlights. i told her the word 'subtle' like ten times and it's anything but that. with school starting in two weeks i feel like my confidence is totally shot. i know it might just take time to get used to but i'm really not feeling to good about it. i got in my car and seriously had to try not to cry.

alright, that's my hair rant for the day. we'll see what happens.
